ASANER Regional Championship 21 / 22 November 2015

The Regional Championships took place at Sunderland Aquatics centre on 21st and 22nd November and BOBSC were proud to have 12 of our swimmers qualifying to compete, swimmers were split between Age groups 11 – 14 year olds, and open being 15 and upwards.

For many of the swimmers it was a very busy gala, most having achieved more than 1 event qualifying time, it is an excellent outcome for not only so many swimmers to be competing but so many in multiple events.

The first event for BoBSC on the day saw Abigail  Miles (11) achieve a Silver medal in 100m Breaststroke, Abigails day continued with 4th in the 400m IM and 5th in the 200m freestlye, 200 backstroke and 50m Backstroke.   A second medal came with a Bronze in the 400m freestyle, and the Silver in the 50m Breaststroke.  Day 2 and more races with a silver in 200m Breaststroke and 5th in 200 IM and 100m back.  Abigail also competed in 100 fly 100 free, 50 fly and 200m fly.

Libby Turner (14) again had a good weekend narrowly missing out on so many mendals, 4th place in 100m breaststroke 4,th 200 breaststroke,4th 200 IM,  swimming in the top 10 for 50m Butterfly, 50m & 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 200m freestely, 50m breaststroke, 50m & 100m back.

Young talent of Lewis Baker (11) competed in a massive total of 15 events across the weekend, with the best result of 5th coming in the 400m Individual Medley.

Jessica Richardson, previously known for her talents in Butterfly, took on the long distance of 800m the only one of our swimmers to achieve long distance times, she also completed in 50m Freestlye, 50m & 200m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.

It was great to see some new talent competing in their first Regional Championships in Georgia Hamblett (14), Sam Charlesworth (11) and Megan Firth (12).

Elizabeth Safonkina (13) and Gregory Lugton (14) competed in a 5 events each across the weekend, attaining some top 10 finishes.  Whilst Harriet Ostrowski-Jones (12) qualified for the 100m & 200m Breaststroke events.

In the Open Competition, Tom Speed (16) took on a number of events achiving Silver in 50m Breaststroke and 5th in the 200m breaststroke final, having achieved 3rd earlier in the day in the qualifiers.  Competition continues to be tight for all these events, never being able to predict which way they will go in the top group.  Thomas also competed in the heats of the 50m butterfly.

On day 2 Tom went into the 100m breaststroke final qualifying 3rd overall whilst finishing 5th in the final, earlier competing in the heats of the 200 IM and 50m Freestyle.

A fantastic weekend for the club, with swimmers representing Barnsley across all events in such a large competition.
