COSSS Tea Spoon Meet 20th September 2015

Barnsley swimmers continued with their run of medals and team spirit this weekend.  The City of Sheffield Swim Club Tea Spoon gala is always an exciting event with all swimmers competing in heats and the top 10 getting through to a final, the top 3 receive the traditional Sheffield Steel Tea Spoon.  The event was well attended with clubs from across the UK.

This weekend was no exception with 15 Barnsley swimmers attending the event,  9 of whom made it through to 1 or more finals putting BOBSC into 17 of the 50m finals in age groups for all 4 strokes, excitement reigned as the team supported each other in all of the events.

Barnsley are promoted to Division 1

Last weekend saw Barnsley Swimmers compete in 3 galas, the first being our own club championship on Friday 11th, events across 50m and 200m where a number of Club Records were broken, some of these having been held for a number of years, this was the initial round of Club Champs with 2 further events to come in October.

On Saturday the squad competed alongside BPL lesson swimmers in the annual Mayors Gala at the Metrodome, this is a great opportunity for the BPL swimmers to experience the competition environment, using blocks and timers for their 25m events in Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle, whilst all BOBSC swimmers undertake 50m events in all 4 strokes.  The event was attended by the Mayor and Lady Mayor of Barnsley who presented the awards to the successful top 3 swimmers in each event.

The climax of the weekend was Sunday’s Barnsley Minors League competition swum at Chapletown Baths, seeing Barnsley, Wakefield, Chapeltown and Sheffield go head to head in the last round of the season.  Barnsley were going into the event 12 points ahead and looking for promotion to Division 1.

Team work is key in this event with both individual and relay events which saw every member of the team give 110% with fantastic support between each other.  The atmosphere was electric with all swimmers and parents from each club cheering and supporting their own swimmers, in what was to be a very close competition, and whilst Barnsley were piped to the post on the days event, it was so close that Barnsley achieved the points to move into Division 1 next year.  A great achievement for the club which has seen many of the swimmers compete over the 4 rounds.
